Diatomaceous earth flea control for cats
Diatomaceous earth is a type of flea control for both animals and construction which is composed of the shells powder and ground-up sea. It is touted as a natural way to kill fleas without harmful chemicals from flea shampoos and other methods of flea control. Unlike many other methods of flea control, claims to kill fleas in the yard before you can get your cat. Theory Behind diatomaceous earth flea control
Diatomaceous Earth can be used in two distinct ways: as a powdered form to be used directly on cats and in the soil in your garden. The shells are ground into powder and then rubbed in finding the cat's fur or inserted into the ground - in a way very similar to other types of products for flea control powder. The shells act like microscopic razor slicers in their shells and their eggs by slaying fleas or dry.
It 'important to remember that it is only safe to use diatomaceous earth food and non-industrial - or pool-grade in your home or on your pets. The version of non-food grade can be inhaled and cause microscopic cuts on the lungs and has been linked to an increase in lung cancer. The food-grade is safe to be used around humans and animals. Diatomaceous earth is available in pet stores and veterinary clinics, and is therefore safe to use. You should be carful buying online or other places specifically related to animal health.
Efficacy of diatomaceous earth
A study conducted by the Texas Department of Agriculture has examined the effectiveness of diatomaceous earth cats both wet and dry against other flea medication and a control group. The study found that the mixture of dry diatomaceous earth was nearly 100 percent effective in eliminating adult fleas in both animals and plants in pots dry. It was only 33 percent effective in killing flea eggs and larval form.
On the other hand, when the powder was introduced to moisture its effectiveness has dropped to only 33 percent of adults and almost no change in the larval form of both animals and soil. It showed that when the powder is dissolved in water is not effective in the treatment of fleas. It 'a great tool in the treatment of animals as long as they are not wet for about two weeks before or after treatment, and is not effective in a residential backyard due to the accumulation of dew in the morning and on construction sites for precipitation.
